Advances in metallurgy have resulted in the production of many kinds of hot rolled steel coil that is used in Industry for the manufacture of different kinds of products. The properties exhibited by these varieties of steels determine their end-use. Since steel sections straddle a whole range of industrial as well as consumer products, different kinds of steel are used to make these different steel sections. Naturally a heavy-duty industrial storage rack will require stronger and thicker steel than a segment of a partition. The process by which the steel is made and the different metals and other elements added to iron to make the steel are the determining factors of the properties of steel that is used in steel sections. Sections can be made of materials other than steel if more weight is expected to be carried than the standard specifications. Galvanized and stainless steel sections can also be manufactured if the sections have to be made rustproof. Different finishes can control the appearance of the sections. Thus, pre painted or powder coated sections can also be provided according to customer requirement. Stainless steel sections can be polished brightly or have a burnished look as per customer preference. Uses of Steel Sections:The industrial applications for various types of steel sections are many and varied. They are used in the manufacture of vertical or horizontal collapsible doors.

In fact there are many different components in collapsible doors that are made from either steel sections or steel tubes such as laths, bottom rail, wind locks, angles etc. These days the aesthetic appearance is also important along with the functionality of an object. A steel section is no exception to this. Hence, there are many finishes in which a steel section can be finally marketed. It can be poly-coated or painted or even oiled and can be made out of different kinds of steel such as HRPO or stainless steel.

A steel section can be made of different qualities of the basic steel raw material depending upon the end-use of the product. Other uses of steel sections can be found in partition screen, security grills, industrial racks and shelves, structures needed in conveyor systems and other engineering products. In all products that are made from steel sections, the size, shape and other specifications are as per the need of the application.

This product of the steel industry is not a product that is sold directly to consumers but is made for other industries that use it as a raw material to produce collapsible doors, partitions, racking systems etc. Many good manufacturers of steel sections offer the whole range of this product in standard specifications as well as make them as per the specifications required. The variety of this product is not confined only to the shape of the steel section but also depends upon the quality of the steel used. Since steel is an alloy that is composed of many metals including a major portion of iron and a definite amount of the element carbon. In fact, the amount of carbon in the steel defines its hardness.

Steel T sections are also commonly used for fabrication. In the vertical roller shutter door, T sections are used as the bottom-rail. Other often used standard steel sections are cross beams, U-channels, laths, industrial hinges, flat leaf sections etc.For example, in security gates or collapsible gates laths or thin strips of steel are used whereas in for steel racks steel sections in the shape of angles or steel members are used.

Most of the types of steel sections that are cold rolled are of standard sizes and specifications that are most commonly used in various applications. Many manufacturers however can also make customized steel sections or alter some specifications to make bespoke sections for their specific needs.  Steel angles are the most common steel sections that are generally adapted for fabrication. Steel angles can be pierced, cut or drilled for use in many industrial applications.
